Applications have truly been a blessing since the creation of the smart phone. Here are some apps I found extremely helpful during pharmacy school and rotations, hopefully you find them useful as well.

ASCVD Risk App: Calculating an ASCVD risk for a patient is extremely handy in determining if they are a candidate for statin therapy or if there is a particular strength of a statin a patient will need. All you have to do is input values and the app calculates an ASCD risk for you. I highly recommend this app!

American Heart Association Guidelines On the Go App: I discovered this gem recently and it is amazing! It provides you quick easy access to the American Heart Association guidelines. It is also helpful in keeping you up to date with new guidelines they have been released that you may have not heard about. News, patient education and calculators are also included in the app.

ACEP Toxicology Section Antidote App: This app is perfect in helping you determine the appropriate antidote for a medication or chemical substance that was overdosed in a patient. In fact I would recommend this app to anyone because I strongly believe it can help save lives.

American College of Physicians Guidelines App: This is also a good app for having easy access to some guidelines. This doesn’t contain all the guidelines in the world ( cool idea for an app by the way) but it does contain some good ones, for example screening for prostate cancer, management of urinary incontinence, treatment of osteoporosis and more.

BMI App: What can I say, it helps to have an app to calculate BMI in less than 10 seconds for you. All you do is input height and weight and you can choose between US units or metric units. The calculator will also state if the BMI correlates to being obese, overweight, underweight etc.

eGFR App: This is an app made by the National Kidney Foundation and it helps you calculate eGFR using the MDRD equation or CKD-EPI creatinine equation and also creatinine clearance using the Cockcroft-Gault formula. I know it is important to know how to calculate these by hand, but this app helps you get the result quickly which I appreciate.

NCCN App: This app was very helpful during my oncology rotation because it enabled me to have all the oncology guidelines at my fingertips. So if you will be doing an oncology rotation or working as an oncology pharmacist I highly recommend this app especially because there are continuous changes with the NCCN guidelines.

Medpage Today App: As a student or pharmacist, it is important to stay up to date with what is going on medicine wise and also medication wise and I appreciate Medpage Today for that. It is my go to medicine news app and keeps me up to date with relevant topics.

PHQ-9 App: This app in a nutshell has the PHQ-9 questionnaire which you can complete to determine if a patient, family member or friend is going through depression and may need treatment. This app is very helpful in an ambulatory care setting.

All in all those are a couple of apps I feel are incredibly useful, if you have any other suggestions please feel free to comment below!
