Sometimes I get nightmares of the horrible acne experience I had as a teenager and I remember how much of a struggle it was. Now there are so many different treatments out there to help you tackle acne and keep it under control. Here are some over-the-counter treatment options for you to consider.

If you have mild acne as shown below consider the following options:

You can consider a topical retinoid such as Differin gel (adapalene 0.1%) which is now being sold over the counter at your local pharmacy such as Target, Walgreens etc.

OR you can consider a face wash product with salicyclic acid such as “Clean and Clear” or “Neutrogena” and plenty more.

If you have more inflamed acne with many pimples that look like they have a fluid in them as shown below, consider these following options:

Use a face wash with benzoyl peroxide 10% (Neutrogena has a good one) and Differin gel (adapalene 0.1%)

Now if your acne looks like anything below, over the counter options may not be good enough for you and you may possibly need a prescription for an antibiotic or a product called Accutane.

Furthermore, on top of the medications it is important to wash your face in the morning and evening and to NOT pop the pimples. I know it’s tempting but do not pop them. Also make sure you do not wash your face more than twice a day as that may irritate your skin.

Hopefully this helps with someone’s acne battles!
